These pieces have been donated to Knit One Cure One breast cancer charity. Hand dyed, hand made pieces designed by Susette Shiver (formally Mueller) at SusettesHandDyedArt. Silkscreen, stamping, painting, stitching techniques contribute to the uniqueness of each piece.
A quilted wall hanging whose design was inspired by an old, abandoned country house and a love of the colors on the mountains here in western North Carolina and a love of bright colors. Hand silkscreened, painted linen is quilted to add an old fashioned quilt texture to the piece. A sleeve is sewn on the back for hanging on the wall. Gentle wash cold, iron if necessary on low heat. 25.5” X 19”
Beautiful background hand dyeing created by “ice” dyeing which generates flower-like patterns that are unique create interest in the linen placemats. The placemats are reversible with linen on one side and cotton on the other in matching colors. The striking silkscreen pattern in blue is a design representing lotus flowers, lotus seeds, and the long stems that hold the flowers high above the pond. My inspiration is our koi pond where each year pink lotus thrive. The mats are quilted and the edges finished with a decorative stitched edge. Placemats are 18.25” wide and 12.5” tall. Machine wash gentle. Dry hanging, flat, or by machine on low to medium heat.
These hand made placemats are hand dyed using a shibori technique of folding. Next, the striking silkscreen pattern of trees was imprinted using reduced indigo blue. The stamped borders represent the light seen between leaves on a sycamore tree. The leaf stamp was created by a collaborator Kathryn Sandberg. The place mats are machine quilted with the reverse fabric muslin.
Placemats are 17” wide and 19” tall. Machine wash gentle. Dry hanging or flat. Iron if desired using steam heat and covering the piece with a layer of cloth.
